PREFACE

With this manual, Ministry of Health Policy and Procedure in Nursing will establish standardized practice of nursing care in both government and non-government health care institutions. Its success is a remarkable tribute to the vision of Ministry of Health (MOH) General Nursing Administration and the countless effort of the Nursing Standards Policy and Procedure Committee.

The policies and procedure written hereto were developed based on the existing policy and procedure manuals of different hospitals in the kingdom which had been reviewed, analyzed and counterchecked with current references. The committee believes that if the service of nursing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is to retain its competency, the manual must be kept up-to-date in terms of content and approach.

The task of preparing the policy and procedure in nursing had been made easier for the committee by the pleasure and satisfaction derived from working as a team, by the stimulus provided by its coordinator and by the challenge it imposed. The committee’s primary objective is to ensure that the manual provides rational and easily comprehensible basis for the practice of nursing.
